The Yale Law School Dorm Rooms

Considering the prestige of Yale Law School,

You’d probably assume their dorm rooms were somewhat extraordinary
If this was your thought, your idea needs some revision
The school was top-notch, but the rooms for its students were quite ordinary
The rooms were small containing a bed, desk and fireplace
The initial problem was that the source of the electricity was current that was direct
Virtually all of the rest of the country used current that was alternating
If you weren’t alert to this, and didn’t use adapters, the slow incineration of your appliances was the effect
The rooms contained no bathrooms, and about a dozen students shared a common one
The showers in the bathroom required acute awareness
If you failed to quickly back away from the water stream when a toilet was flushed
The water quickly turned very hot, and you endured a scalding for your carelessness
I’ve mentioned above that the rooms were small, but had a fireplace
Which brings to mind the problem I faced when I ordered a cord of wood
I had no idea what a cord meant, but paid in advance and left the door open for delivery
Much to my shock when I later returned, there was only a narrow aisle to get the fireplace and where the bed and desk stood
Being a city boy I didn’t realize the considerable size that a cord represented
I subsequently learned its dimensions are 4 ft. by 4 ft. by 8 feet, a very considerable stack
Cramming this cord into a small space created considerable maneuvering problems
Until I finally burnt or gave away a considerable part of this rack
And finally, the pigeons who made a home outside my window
Made a considerable racket when awakening each day at early morn
Considerable efforts to encourage them to move elsewhere failed
So I adjusted to their schedule, and rose each day with the break of dawn
I enjoyed my time at Yale Law School from 1955 to 1958, despite the above problems
But the lesson here is just because you attend a school with a great name
Prepare for the fact that your living accommodations
May not reflect its elite fame
